Soccer tactics can be quite tricky and this is why I wrote this article. There are so many different things to keep in mind and they can all seem elementary but they are just fundamentals. So here are some basic soccer tactics to get you started on the right foot. These soccer tactics will get your feet wet and help you understand the game of soccer even better.
The soccer tactics and training tips below were developed in answer to several emails from elite coaches who were either having trouble or losing their soccer teams. About half of the strategies will also work for both youth and high school soccer, but only about half of the strategies are for high school and international soccer teams. High school soccer is completely different than international soccer so these strategies will not really apply. However, they are a great start to understanding the differences so that you can modify your soccer strategy based on your team and position.
This is a common mistake for new soccer players. If the other team takes the ball from you then you should have someone on the opposite team take it back. That is what is known as taking the ball “out”. The opposing team may think that you want to try and win the game by scoring a goal but that is not what you want to do. Just play defense and try not to let the other team score a goal.
